FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: We #BelieveSurvivors, Cancel Kavanaugh Day of Action

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Women’s March Chico holds We #BelieveSurvivors, Cancel Kavanaugh Day of Action

Chico, CA, Sep 27 – Today in the Chico Area, Women & Allies will stand with Dr. Ford in positive support and say “Cancel Kavanugh”.

In light of the recent revelations about the current Supreme Court Justice nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, and his criminal behavior toward women, Women's March Chico will hold a day of action on Thursday to coincide with actions scheduled in solidarity nationwide.

Following the credible allegations of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, who recounted how Kavanaugh attempted to rape her, several more women have stepped forward with further allegations. Most recently, Julie Swetnick released a signed affidavit stating she survived assault and gang rape involving Kavanaugh. Some men who knew Kavanaugh at the time have also supported their characterization of his behavior. These reports have led to an explosion of protest and support from thousands of people across the nation and across the aisle.

On Thursday, Dr. Ford will testify to the Senate regarding her allegations, reminiscent of the Anita Hill hearings in 1991. As a show of support to Dr. Ford, the other women and Survivors everywhere, a sign holding action will be held throughout the Downtown Chico city plaza from 5pm to 7pm.

There will also be a social media solidarity action and moment of silence from 12pm to 12:31pm that can be done from anywhere. For more information about the details of both events, please visit https://m.facebook.com/events/671668363232429/?ti=ia.

All women and allies are encouraged to attend the events to show the public and our representatives that we #BelieveSurvivors and we say Cancel Kavanaugh. We must create Consent Culture, so we that we may end rape culture once and for all.

Our Revolution Chico, Families Belong Together Chico, Chico Peace and Justice Center and Indigenous Support Collaborative Nor Cal will also be present as community partners.

Volunteer crisis counselors will be present as well.
